Just saw a note that Herb Geller passed away. Given the news, and the season, here’s a little remembrance:
My memory of Herb Geller: A long time ago, 1959, I was standing in front of a jazz bar called Mother’s. The door sprang open and the guitarist ran out and raced down the street, then the drummer.
Then Geller came out, looked up and down, and called to us, “Anybody know where to get a g-string?”
It is a very sad news. I’m a huge fan of his marvellous “Fire in the West’ IMO one of the “must have” record in every collection… Definitely a great musician and somewhat underrated as many of its colleague. We will miss him. I also think about is exquisite wife Lorraine, a brilliant pianist who died untimely. RIP, Herb…
RIP, Horace Silver too. Horace passed away a few days ago.

@ Rudolf : It seems like it is only a rumour.
Michel: I got my initial info from Le Temps, but missed the rectification. So much the better!
don’t think my French is up to par, since I can’t find anything about Horace – what’s the story?
