Vinyl Tracking From the Jazz Record Center

Here are a few more results of jazz vinyl auctions by the Jazz Record Center last week. Just in case anyone is interested, I have no vested interest in these auctions or special relationship with the Jazz Record Center. I like to watch their auctions as a bellwether because they are probably the most reputable seller in the market.

Working With the Miles Davis Quintet, Prestige 7166. This was an original yellow label pressing with the New Jersey address. It was a review copy in mint condition. The price was $472.35. There was a time when you could get the Miles Prestige records relatively inexpensively, but not anymore.

Here’s another nice one from Prestige: Stan Getz and Zoot Sims, The Brothers, Prestige 7022. This was an original New York yellow label pressing in M- condition for the record and probably VG++ for the cover. This one has the frame cover. The price was $234.72. How often are you going to find a record like this in this kind of condition? Nice.

Here’s a Blue Note that, surprisingly, did not break into the $1,000 bin.

John Jenkins and Kenny Burrell, Blue Note 1573. This was an original pressing and it was in near mint condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $884.

I had an eye on this because I have a duplicate copy I may be looking to sell or trade: The Fabulous Fats Navarro Volume 1, Blue Note 1531. This was an original Lexington Avenue pressing with an original Lexington Avenue frame cover. The record looked to be in M- condition and the cover was probably VG++. The price was $382. Actually, not only do I have a duplicate copy of Volume 1, I have a duplicate copy of Volume 2 as well.

  • fats navarro: such a great album, and Lexington Flat rim….. i’ve seen herbie hancock albums go for more money… strange world..??!

  • I’ve always loved the cover to “The Brothers” album. Something about it, I just find it great. I don’t have a copy and have been outbid a few times recently but I intend to pick one up sooner or later. My cd copy sounds pretty bad.

  • cover is by the great cartoonist Don Martin i believe (MAD magazine, etc), i think he made 3 covers for prestige..

  • Dean Martin was a great artist indeed. He designed the covers for Prestige 7022, 7023, 7024 and 7025.

  • Dean or Don Martin? He signs D. Martin on the sleeves.

  • Dean Martin, singer. Don Martin, artist.

  • Don. Dean was the other guy!

  • This makes more sense, I should have seen the connection. I still am depressed that my parents through out my Mad magazine collection 10 years ago or something. It had been in there attic for a long time and I guess I should have grabbed them. I felt like they threw away my childhood though.
