Downbeats, Anyone?
I’ve been posting old issues of Downbeat Magazine from the 1960s on eBay and have not seen a great deal of interest, which is a shame since, to me, these seem so much a part of the history. Anyway, I received a note yesterday from a guy in Portland, Oregon, who has just acquired a massive collection of Downbeats from 1955 to 2004 and he’s looking to sell them in bulk. I already have too many Downbeats to get rid of, so I told him I wasn’t interested but I would post an item on the site and see if any of the Jazz Collector readers are interested. i have every copy from january 1972 to february2011.
i was once in contact with someone in the usa who advertised in downbeat but who was was not prepared to buy them but was prepared to pay the postage.
he was collecting them for a “library” that he was creating.
obviously i would like to sell them but i am willing to send them free(in bulk or portion(s) to anyone who is willing to send me a self-addressed envelope(s).
any ideas?
i aslo have quite a few blue note double and single cds from the 1950’s 1960’s and some prestige and pacific jazz.
they have only been played once to record them on casette(shows how old they are) and then filed in inner covers, outer covers and hard cases.
i have not looked at them for about 20 years.
any ideas?

Hi. I’m interested in acquiring two Down Beat issues: June 16, 1950 and September 8, 1950.
Does anyone have or know where I could get issues of Down Beat from the 60s and 70s?
I have bound volumes of DownBeat magazine that I purchased from the Multnomah County Library sometime around 1990. 1956-1972. Lots of single issues before that as well. All mags have library stamps. I am interested in moving these along if you would like to contact me.
I HAVE JUST BEEN GIVEN A HUGE BOX OF DOWNBEAT MAGAZINES….1942 – ON UP TO 1970S. THERE ARE ALSO METRONOME MAGAZINES WITH PEGGY LEE , FRANK SINATRA ETC…
