Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section, Contemporary 3532. This was an original deep groove promo copy. The listing talks about a rare original reverse-frame cover and I’m not sure what that exactly means, but I think I have the same cover, so whatever it is I’m OK with it. This one looked to be in M- condition for the record and probably VG++ for the cover. The final vinyl was $765.

Jimmy Smith at the Organ, Volume 2, Blue Note 1552. This was an original deep groove pressing with the New York 23 label. The record and cover both looked to be in M- condition. The final price was $744, which is up there for a Jimmy Smith date session. Also, Jimmy Smith at the Organ, Volume 1, Blue Note 1551. This is a deep groove pressing with the West 63^rd Street labels. It also looked to be in M- condition for the record and cover. The final price was $180.39. I guess there must be some extra value in that New York 23 label. Amazing, isn’t it, for basically the same music, the premium that the label has in our collector’s world?

Clark Terry, Serenade to a Bus Seat, Riverside 237. This was an original white label pressing, in M- condition for both the record and the cover. The final price was $261. Harold Vick, Blue Note 4138. This was an original mono pressing with Review Copy stamped on the back. The record was listed in M- condition and the cover was VG+. The final price was $250.20.

Miles Davis, Relaxin’, Prestige 7129. This was an original New York yellow label rated in M- condition for both the record and the cover. The final price was $529.

Zoot Sims, Down Home, Bethlehem 6051. This was an original red label pressing listed in M- condition for the record and VG+ for the cover. The final price was $455.

Sonny Rollins, Way Out West, Contemporary 3530. This looked to be an original promo copy. Record was probably VG++, cover was VG. Final price was $455.

Thad Jones and Charles Mingus, Jazz Collaborations Volume 1, Debut 17. This was an original 10-inch LP listed in M- condition for the record and VG++ for the cover. The final price was $418.79.

From the same seller: Harold Vick, Steppin’ Out, Blue Note 4138. This was also an original mono pressing with the New York USA label. It was listed in Ex+ condition for the record and M- for the cover. It sold for $621.92.

Mal Waldron, Left Alone, Bethlehem 6045. This was an original red label pressing. The record was probably VG+ and the cover was listed as VG. The final price was $745.55.

Tony Fruscella, Atlantic 1220. This was an original black label pressing. The record was in M- condition and the cover looked to be about VG++. The final price was $415.

Clifford Brown Quartet, Blue Note 5047. This was an original 10-inch pressing. The record was listed in VG+ condition and the cover was VG. The price was $409.04.

Art Farmer Quintet Featuring Gigi Gryce, Prestige 7017. This was an original New York yellow label listed in Ex- condition for both the record and the cover. The final price was $370.55.

Sonny Criss, Jazz-USA, Imperial 9006. This was an original pressing listed in VG+ condition for the record and the cover. It sold for $356.90.

To those we will add one of the records we were watching from Rudolf’s auction: Sonny Red, Out of the Blue, Blue Note 4032. This was an original pressing that looked to be in pristine M- condition for the record and the cover. It was $160 when we first looked at it and we said at the time we expected it to get at or near the $1,000 marker. We didn’t expect that it would make it all the way to $1,802, which was the final selling price. We could repeat the “Nuts, Wow,Crazy” lament, but, hey, it is what it is, and this is a great original Blue Note in perfect condition so who’s to begrudge the buyer for wanting to add that to a collection, at any price. It may not be the way I prefer to collect, but for some people (rich people?) this seems to be the way to go. It’s nice to have eBay to gauge the top end of the market for the rest of us, I guess.

Someone on the Reader Forum was looking for Booker Ervin records. Could you go wrong with this one? Booker Ervin, Groovin’ High, Prestige 7417. There wasn’t much description in the listing, but there was just one bidder and the price was $9.99. This won’t make the price guide, but it probably made one collector quite happy.

The price on this also seemed a bit low: Lee Konitz, Prestige 7004. This was an original New York yellow label in VG+ condition for he record and the cover. It sold for $87.59.

Duke Jordan, A Flight To Jordan, Blue Note 4046. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing. The record was in VG++ condition and the cover was somewhere between VG+ and VG++. The price was $438.

Lee Morgan, The Cooker, Blue Note 1578. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing in VG+ condition for the record and the cover. The price was $461.
