Price Guide

We try to keep an ongoing tabulation of prices of vintage collectible vinyl on eBay. This is not a complete list, but it is one focused on the more collectible labels – such as Blue Note, Prestige, Norgran, Riverside, Verve, Transition and others – and the more collectible artists.

On this app, the condition is listed as record first, cover second. Generally items we track are original pressings in VG+ or better condition. As you know, all dealers do not grade equally and the prices of certain records are affected by the dealer’s reputation and by the way he or she packages the eBay listing. In any case, eBay represents the best public market and indicator of real pricing patterns for the Jazz Collector market, far better, more accurate and up-to-date than any price guides. You can sort this by artist, label and price. If you are searching for a particular artist, type in the last name first followed by a comma and the first name, such as Davis, Miles.

  • Hello, I am trying to find information on a rare Charlie Parker Lp I own. It was bootlegged from Europe by a musician friend who was on tour there and given to me in 1978. I have not been able to find any information on the album I have. The album is “Charlie Parker At The Pershing Ballroom Chicago 1950” When I research that album, The cover and inside of mine is different, it is clearly a bootleg from Holland. If anyone has any information on this please let me know, The front cover is a picture of Charlie Parker that I have never seen, The back is him facing the wall, looking like despair. I have pictures of the album also. Here is the information I do have:

    Charlie Parker At The Pershing Ballroom Chicago 1950
    Charlie Parker Sextet
    Charlie Parker (alto sax) unknown (tenor sax -1/5) Von Freeman (tenor sax -6/13) unknown (piano -1/5) Chris Anderson (piano -6/13) George Freeman (guitar) Leroy Jackson (bass) Bruz Freeman (drums) unknown (vocals -11/13)
    “Pershing Hotel Ballroom”, Chicago, IL, October 23, 1950
    1.Indiana Zim ZM 1003 2.I Can’t Get Started-3.Anthology-4.Out Of Nowhere-5.Get Happy-6.Hot House-7.Cool Blues-8.All The Things You Are-9.Billie’s Bounce-10.Pennies From Heaven-11.Embraceable You-12.Body And Soul-13.Stardust-
    * Zim ZM 1003
    This tape recording was made by Donald Coy, edited to Parker solos and exchanges. The tape was recorded off a dressing room speaker, and parts of some items (“Embraceable You” through “All the Things You Are”) are marred by conversation.
    A second version of “Pennies from Heaven” was recently discovered. It ends after the Parker solo, and an unknown trombone can be heard.
    The four titles issued on Philology Volume 14 are listed there as from Pershing Ballroom, November 1949, but they clearly belong here.

  • Hi Linda,

    It sounds like one of many, many bootleg LPs by Bird recorded by one of his many fans with a tape recorder. The tape or disc found it’s way into the hands of whomever was running Zim Records in the 1970’s. Zim is a domestic U.S. Jazz label with live material of unknown legal status (list here:http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Labels/zim.htm) that was distributed by City Hall Record Distributors in San Rafael, CA, but not currently listed in their label list. I’m not sure what other info you’re looking for, but maybe City Hall can help you.

    Bootlegs of this stature usually sell for $10-15 in stores and the internet.

  • Hi Rick, Thank you so much for helping me out. I do not wish to sell this LP. I am a jazz musician and this LP is very sentimental to me. I appreciate you responding and I will try and get more info on it. Thanks Again!

  • I would like to post a picture of the album for anyone to comment, I don’t know how??? Can anyone help?

  • My husband helped navigate many jazz artists in the early 70’s for the french summer jazz festivals in the south of France. I have about 2000 albums, many signed by the artists, , as new, in protective coverings. Quite a few of the albums have multiple signatures of the musicians who played on the albums. Following are some of the artists who have signed the albums – Joe Newman, Miles Davis , Chet Baker , Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and his band, Pepper Adams, Horace Silver, Stan Getz, Astrid Gilberto, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie , Dollar Brand, Paul Chambers, Gerry Mulligan, Pepper Adams, Milt Jackson, Jimmy Heath, Lee Konitz, Abbey Lincoln, George Shearing, Cannonball Adderly, Ron Carter, Jerry Mulligan, James Moody, Joe Albany, Woody Shaw and many others … also have encyclopedia of Jazz 197Os & 60s – practically all pages signed by the artist listed in the encyclopedias – best advice on how to sell? Would appreciate any advice.

  • Have inherited about 400 no. 78 rpm records, all in covers and most appear never to have been played. They are from the mid 1930s to 1942 and are jazz. I have photographs of 194 of them at the moment but wondered what was the bst way to go about seeing whether they are of valuable to anyone!.
